Jonathan Chater
Instructor
Jon is an experienced educator with a strong foundation in photography and a proven ability to engage students from diverse social and cultural backgrounds. He holds a BA in Graphic Design, an MA in Photographic Studies, and a PGCE in Post-Secondary Education from the Institute of Education, London.
His teaching style is hands-on and student-centred, encouraging creative experimentation and critical thinking.
Behind the Scenes
Outside the classroom, Jon can often be found exploring the streets of Vancouver with camera. He is an active member of the Vancouver Street Photography Collective, a non-profit society that supports diverse approaches to street photography through community, dialogue, and exhibition. His work has been featured in group shows in both London and Vancouver.

Over time, Jon has become increasingly interested in the mindful aspects of street photography such as how the act of walking with a camera can cultivate presence, reflection, and an appreciation for everyday moments.
His creative influences include Ray Metzker, William Eggleston, Fan Ho, and Saul Leiter.
